Our vision of a thriving community is a place where people have the independence and ability to fulfil their potential, in good health and with opportunities throughout life.

Cornwall Council provides important local services to help make this happen.

Education in Cornwall needs a vision of lifelong learning that empowers people – children and adults – and gives them the confidence to achieve. This service has suffered from successive reorganisations and changes in government policy.

The Health Service in Cornwall needs to provide facilities and services as locally as possible, with a greater emphasis on the encouragement of healthy lifestyles.

Local involvement in decisions about health priorities needs to be promoted by the Council.

Green open spaces, parks, play areas and allotments are important places for relaxation, exercise and enjoyment. The Council needs to ensure that everyone has access to these valuable areas.

Local culture, including the indigenous culture of Cornwall, is a significant dimension of people’s lives. It must be respected and encouraged to flourish through support for the arts and for Cornwall’s built and natural heritage.

Social Care services must be more responsive to the needs of those they seek to help. There is an important role for community groups, charities and social enterprises to help support vulnerable people in their communities. High standards of staff training are essential.

Our Vision of Community

More opportunities for lifelong learning, recognising that people may want to have education at many points in life, at times and in places that fit with their busy lives.

Valuing the role played by community groups, social enterprises and the voluntary sector in strengthening communities and supporting individuals.

Easy access to green spaces, play areas and allotments, for enjoyment by all ages and abilities and as an essential part of a healthy life.

Supporting local cultural activities throughout Cornwall, which make Cornwall a distinct and special place. This includes supporting parish magazines, community halls and performance spaces.
