Draft Core Strategy

Letter sent to West Briton by Tim Thomson

I read the letter from Councillor Fiona Ferguson with interest, because the subject of development in the Truro area, as well as in the rest of Cornwall, is an issue which will affect us all. We should commend Councillor Ferguson for attempting to find out what Truro residents think about the draft Core Strategy.

Under the previous administration, many people were justifiably angry at the apparent lack of consultation on major matters; now at last we are being given the opportunity to provide feedback on important issues like waste collection, and now the future 20 years of growth in Cornwall. It is a chance not to be missed – if we do not take it now, we will not deserve to be consulted on other matters in the future.

Chacewater Parish Council is holding a public meeting on April 8th specifically to ask the Parishioners for their opinions on the draft Core Strategy. A member of the Planning Department is attending to outline the options. The Parish Council will then formulate a submission, based on that feedback, to be taken into account when policy is debated by Cornwall Council.

I would urge everyone to give their views on the draft Core Strategy, either via the Council website, or through the Parish Councils, or by speaking to a Cornwall Councillor. If we are in favour of localism, and of having our views taken into account, then those of us who are concerned about the future development of Cornwall need to demonstrate that concern by telling the Council what we think.

Tim Thomson

Chairman, Chacewater Parish Council
