Helston Election Battle in the International Spotlight
 |
Tim Andrewes, the Green Party’s parliamentary candidate for the St Ives constituency, was surprised to be interviewed by a Spanish journalist while campaigning on the streets of Helston last weekend.
Inigo Gurruchaga, who is the London-based correspondent for the Spanish newspaper group El Correo, was on the last leg of a journey from John O’Groats to Lands End, during which he has been reporting on local constituency election campaigns. He watched Tim and other members of his team as they handed out leaflets and posters on Coinagehall Street and talked to members of the public.
|
Tim Andrewes said: ‘Inigo was interested to find out the main messages of our campaign, but also about our campaigning style. He was particularly curious about the environmental impact of our activities. He was quite impressed when I told him that we use 100% recycled paper for leaflets, the fact we make all our poster boards from scrap wood, and our use of tele-conferencing for campaign team meetings, which cuts down on the need to travel.’
While on his election tour of Britain, Inigo Gurruchaga has also covered constituency campaigns in areas such as rural Herefordshire, the Eden Valley and the Scottish Highlands.
