Below are the results for the four constituencies where we stood. I would like to start by offering my sincere thanks to those who stood by their principles and were not paniced by all the media pressure about the need for a clear result, the "dangers" of a representative (hung) parliament, the dangers of letting the Tories in or the need to get rid of Gordon.
Those of you who stuck with us and voted for what you believe in can stand proud in the knowledge that at least your preference was clear. For the rest of you, those who said 'you would like to vote for us, but...' then you have only yourselves to blame for the consequences. Your message was confused and is being interpreted in all sorts of different ways by different interest groups as the horse trading between nearly identical power hungry failed political philosophies continues.
Outside a storm is raging as Mother Earth starts to wreak her vengeance on us all and the seeds of destruction inherent in our 19th Century capitalist system burst into inevitable bloom and decay closes in.
We may get another chance to stabilise the ship of fools on which we find ourselves - the news from Brighton is encouraging - Greens CAN win even under our corrupt and discredited electoral system and in the face of massive structural bias towards the status quo.
We certainly do not have time to wait for a 2013 Cornwall election to maybe get a few sane voices into local Government here and then to build a platform for subsequent electoral success into Westminster. We do need to find new ways of getting the Green message embedded into our lives - one of the first things you should do now, if you have not already is JOIN US. We need to get together and collectively work out a way forward, and we need you, dear reader, to be part of this process.
Joining only costs £2.60 a month - do it now online by following this link.
In the meantime here are our local results:
| St.Ives |
Tim Andrewes |
1308 |
2.8% |
| Camborn & Redruth |
Euan McPhee |
581 |
1.4% |
| Truro & Falmouth |
Ian Wright |
858 |
1.8% |
| South East Cornwall |
Roger Creagh-Osborne |
826 |
1.7% |
These are pretty much in line with other results across the region - in seats where Greens hadn't stood before we got around 1.6%, and where we had stood in 2005 we were squeezed down about 1% by people tactically voting because they thought they would influence the national result - you fools!
Just remember next time - vote for what you believe in.
These are my personal views and not formally endorsed by Mid & East Cornwall Green Party
